High levels of calcium would be one thing I think would help promote growth. Which brand of salt do you use, and do you add any calcium supplements? Is this a reef tank? acei![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Big Fish Posts: 316 Kudos: 291 Votes: 1 Registered: 18-Mar-2004 ![]() ![]() | high calcium and lighting play key roles with coralline algae. i have found that my nice, beautiful purple coraline algae turned green when i put my Mh lights on the tank. my sump has a small actinic and 10k pc light on it and the coraline algae there is bright purple and flourishing. my theory is the intensity is key. there was a guy who was selling some live rock in denver that had huge amounts of coraline algae on it. something like i have never seen before. this stuff was very thick and wavy, gorgeous. the tank was a fowlr. he stated that for years all he ever used was a cheap pc 10k and actinic light. i think it was only around 100 watts or so. the tank was a 90g. seems to me if you are keeping a reef tank, you are stuck with minimal coraline algae unless there are shadows keeping your rock from baking under the bright lights. I just bought a new light about 3 months ago then i started getting all this bright green stupid algea. There is really no shade in the tank. maybe im out of luck. www.responsiblethrashers.com |
