On Friday, before I left for vacation, I checked on my tank. Everyone seemed happy and my Turbo Snail was busy cleaning the glass. I came back Sunday night and noticed that in the corner sat my snails shell with 2 of my bigger hermit carbs pearched on the opening. The shell is on its back and I think the snail is way down inside dead. My tank has been running for 3 months now, with no other deaths. I did my last water change about two weeks ago. Is it possible that either my snail starved to death or he was attacked by my hermits? Thanks for all the help.

The Turbo snail simply fell. When they get on their backs, they cannot turn themselves over. They need assistance from the tank keeper if you wish for them to live. If you leave them on their backs, they can become lunch within minutes for hermits and any other critters.

I would rule the death an accident. The hermits simply ate an already dying animal.

I agree with Mike.. I keep several turbo snails in my 100gal and I am constantly having to flip the little goobers back over.. They aren't the most graceful of snails.. I even keep a dowel rod in my tank stand so that I can reach them without having to stick my arm into the aquarium..

Sorry to hear about your snail..

I've gotten to the point that half the time I let the clumsy bastards stay on their back. I should be nice and flip them over though. I don't have any turbo snails though.
