Currently I buy stuff (prawn, white bait, squid..) from bait & tackle shop and feed my eel and lion....is it a bad idea? Honestly they don't look fresh to me at all too....

Does the frozen food in LFS really make better food for them?

I know it's the best to buy fresh from seafood shop....but I just want to find a more convenient way

If i were you i probably would not completely trust frozen food from a bait shop since it is meant for fish that swim in the ocean and are being caught, fisherman are not really worried about health of the fish compared to aquarium people who spend their days testing their water. The frozen food in the LFS also is sterilized and sometimes has vitamins added, so if i were you i would use LFS food.

I use LFS food due to the fact that the ingredients used are more carefully examined than those that are present in the bait shop. I doubt that all bait shop substances are diseased, but I would expect a higher chance of disease through them...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

If you're lucky enough to have an asian food market in your area, they are gold mines for finding decent frozen (and fresh, as well) seafood..

For my last batch of homemade fish food I used a "bits bag" of seafood which included octopus, squid, fish, crab, oysters and mussels.. The whole bag, and it was large enough for me to make 5 ziploc bags (pressed almost flat) worth of frozen fish food, cost me less than $5 at the asian market..

Frozen cubes from the LFS are great and easy, but I can tell you that my fish go nuts for the homemade.. You might like giving that a try if you're looking for an economical way to feed your fish.. Not to mention it's just fun mixing up fish food recipes

Good Luck to you..
