Ok, first thing, get ready to do a huge water change....the more the better....Second, increase water flow and surface agitation. The cloudy/murky water sounds like a lack of water flow to me (been there done that when I set up my first tank).

Water tests......test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Post back with test results when you can.

Was in chat with Angel before.

Ammonia and nitrate were 0 and a partial waterchange increased turbidity.

HTH.

Have you changed anything from the normal routine recently? New fish, new equipment, chemicals/meds in the water, etc.? Perhaps a deviation from what you usually do was the cause.

Hmmm, could have something died on your lr and clouded the tank like a clam or something?

What type of skimmer do you have? And is it rated for that size tank? Some skimmers work much better at others, I've seen very efficient ones and ones that were just a huge waste of money. I think a couple things will help...

1- aggressive skimming...do you have a friend with a spare skimmer that you could hook up temporarily?

2- massive water change..."dilution is the solution to pollution" I agree with Nate...do the biggest change possible without going overboard. Make sure that the water is the same salinity/SG and temp. as the main tank, if you dont you are just asking for even more trouble.

Remember, it's better to take out the bad things w/ a lot of good things, and then replace with good things, then to leave everything be IMO. *rereads that sentence* It makes sense to me...I dunno if anyone else will follow it though. >.<

3- MORE POWERHEADS...how are you achieving circulation? how many times per hour is your tank turned over?

4- recheck your levels just to be safe, what test kit brand are you using?

I think it might help if you give us a little more information. You did a good job for starters, but could you be a little more specific? Like brands/models of your equipment, how much live rock you have per gallon, stuff like that.

And along with what others have said, did anything die off, and/or have you added anything new?

Hope everything works out...it's hard when our tanks go funky and we cant figure out why.

EDIT: Grammar...

thanks for the help...ive moved the fishinto my other marine tank (with my eels and moon wrasse...so far so good)
and drained the tank completely retarted cycling with new water and no cloudiness its crystal clear. There was no odour to the tank and no clams etc on the rock that could have died so its still a mystery i vave a large skimmer and powerhead (venturi skimmer) and i added a spare one yesterday. Any way I hope to put the fish back in in about 3weeks so fingers crossed for the tank and my moon wrasse !
