![]() | HELP! treating parasites in tank w/ live rock? |

I haven't managed to catch him yet, but today my Picasso trigger started flicking, too. There's no mistaking what they're doing. I don't really see anything on them, but I'm all but positive I'm dealing with a parasite -- probably velvet; the domino has a bit of a gold shimmer, and I think maybe the Picasso has a tiny bit, too. (It's hard to get a good look, because they don't hold still.) Now the question is how to proceed. I have 70 pounds of live rock in the tank and am not thrilled about the idea of treating the whole setup with copper, but my only other alternative is a 30-gallon quarantine tank, and I'm not sure it would take my 4 active fish (domino, yellow tang, clownfish and trigger) for as long as it would take to deal with the problem. I could muck around and try freshwater dips, but I'm just positive I'm dealing with a parasite problem and if that's the case, the dips might slow it up but won't fix it. Tang and clownfish haven't shown evidence of a problem yet, but I'm guessing it's only a matter of time. Any suggestions? Also, I'm going to be out all day tomorrow and don't have time to go to the store before I leave -- can it wait till tomorrow night to treat, or do I have to get hubby on it? (He's not very good at following directions when it comes to my fish, so I'd rather not.) Last edited by lmuha at 24-Aug-2005 16:46 Last edited by lmuha at 24-Aug-2005 16:46 |
