I'm interested in any information people can give me on Aquarium sharks, the species I'm looking at are Marbled Cat Sharks. I have no intention of getting one at the moment however I want to find out as much information as possible. I was thinking as far as tank size goes a 400 gallon or something in the range of six feet long by four feet wide and the hight hasn't really been considered yet. Anyone out there have ideas for tankmates? Years ago when I was a kid the LFS had baby nurse sharks, yes they were nurse sharks, in with Lionfish and puffers. Any ideas on possible tankmates for Marbled Cat Sharks??

yeah i got some when i was in san diego, i had to catch them in the ocean. of course they were only babies.. i wouldn't approach a great white no matter how cute. so anyway i sent my hubby out into to the water, and he got 3 lil babies, they r in our 500 gal now and have been there for 2 months, they r still kinda small and one of them likes to swim on its back a nibble on my hubby's nipple ( only when he dives in )anyway they eat frozen chicke thighs and r happy as can be, x-cept when they gnaw on my finers during feeding time which is once every 3 days i think

lotz of luv shannoniah

p.s. " the species I'm looking at are Marbled Cat Sharks...Anyone out there have ideas for tankmates? ....Any ideas on possible tankmates for Marbled Cat Sharks??"

Sigh Tiki I meant what are possible tankmates for sharks in general and then specifically for Marbled Cat Sharks. Tomorrow I am going to school to take a test and then I'm off at two call me. We'll go hit up that new LFS.

Sharks are NOT recommended for home aquaria

You Reaaallly need to do your research before buying a shark

Which is why I am trying to gather information now, I don't want to bring home an animal I can't properly care for. I may decide that I don't want to deal with their requirements, I do appreciate the website you sent me, it has helped quite a bit.

Well, sharks in general are NOT highly recommended, but if they are kept correctly, there's nothing detrimental to their presence in home aquaria. Especially smaller breeds, such as Banded or Marbled Cat Sharks, can be kept without rather easily without hurting either owner or shark in the least. Fish that are not intended to be kept in home aquaria are rather good at informing their keepers of such a fact by not living healthily or by not living a full lifespan. A good example would be something like a Great White Shark, which, to this day, has not survived in captivity, no matter how large of an area it was provided.

It sounds ot me like she's doing the right thing by asking for more people's help with more information and she has already offerred to me that she'll be getting a VERY large tank so that this shark will be able to have a wonderful habitat. They are a delicate species and through our help I'm sure everything will go VERY well

As for tankmates, I'd recommend pufferfish and skates/rays. Stars-and-Stripes Puffers are rather common and easily attainable and have a history of living very peacefully with sharks. I don't know too much about Porcupine Puffers and would be wary of them, but they'd probly also work without a hitch. Also, while rays are less common and more expensive, they can be a gorgeous addition to such a setup

EDIT: BTW Me, you can just edit your post instead of making a whole new post for one sentence in the future
