I am new to all this so I have a question about lighting. I have a 30 gallon hexagon tank and was wondering what sort of lighting (type/watts) I will need so I can have some fish and coral? Thanks in advance for any help.

For the fish it doesnt really matter.

As for corals, it depends on what you want to keep. Not to mention your options are more limited with a Hex tank.

you'd probably need more becuase a hex tank is taller than a nomral hexigonal tank.

Due to the limited size of the top of a Hex tank, if you wanting to keep corals, you should look into the metal Halides, as fluorescent lighting and power compacts would be limited for watts. The metal Halides are all basically the same size with increased number of watts for basically the same size bulb.

HTH.....

Well if you are like me with a limited budget, metal halides are out. The hexagonal tank limits you, but I would suggest Very High Output flourescents/Power Compacts should provide enough ligting for fish/most corals verts. almost all stony corals are out of the question though withouth metal halides.
