I have read elsewhere that mantis shrimp deserve a tank of their own, and am interested in starting one. If anyone one has any experience with purposely caring fora mantis shrimp, advice would be appreciated!

Mantis are touchy to water conditions...very touch to water conditions actually. I kept one for 8 months till I moved..the move ended up stressing him out and he died.

Unless you are experienced, I would not recommend keeping one.

Oh, and the mantis that you linked to are not a Juv. and adult....they are two different species. The last one you linked to is a very expensive mantis, and gets rather large.

I'm not too experianced with saltwater, but I do know that the DRO is right (as usual ) and the "adult" mantis you linked is a peacock mantis shrimp. I did a school project on them, and I remember that picture.

I would hold off....your tank (if I remember correctly) hasnt been set up long enough to be reliably stable yet. Give it time, Mantis will still be around when you and your tank are.
