I have alot of red algae in my tank and I have been told to lessen the amounts of food im feeding and do 3 water changes a week to get rid of it......to be honest that sounds alittle expensive and extreme to me. Is there any other way? I already tried that red slime remover medicine and it didn't work, plus my sailfin tang is already looking alittle thin and I am afraid that if I lessen his food intake I might not have him for very much longer...... HELP????????

Algae is usually from excess nutrients in the water, hence why you were told to increase your water changes.

Try feeding less, make sure that your animals eat what you feed. If you have an extensive photoperiod, cut back a bit. And try switching to RO/DI water, you may have excess phosphate and/or silicates in the water you're using now. RO/DI should help that.

What salt brand are you using?

I use Instant Ocean salt....... but about the food thing, mmy fish eat every little scrap of food before it can even float to the bottom of the tank so I don't see that as an issue.....

IO is not known for sudden algae outbreaks, so I think we're good there.

As for feeding, that's good. I'm assuming you aren't target feeding any corals or dosing liquid foods, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd switch to RO/DI water.
