New Mantis - Spearer | |
Mez Ultimate Fish Guru Asian Hardfeather Enthusiast Posts: 3300 Votes: 162 Registered: 23-Feb-2001 | No idea what it is. latin name was "Gonodactylus spp/Squilla" - if its a spearer it cant be a gonodactylus right? I will take some photos real soon. Here is a photo of how it came from the shop just until it settles in: Seems to have a big eye spot on the carapace/neck area.. James p.s - it's looking to be a Raoulserenea komaii according to roys list of stomatopods. will have to see how the colour is when it's out of the bag. It also has 2 black spots just after the appendages under his belly, and two more on the underside of his tail "feathers" - excuse my poor taxonomy! |

He's still small though. If the mantis is the only animal in the tank, you can just drop it in, or use a feeding stick to get it close to their cave. Nice new mantis mez. I like his spots! Feeding, yeah clubbers can be fed by hand if you have one that wont attack you, i would not risk it with a spearer though. In those pictures nat if you look closely you can see the mantis holding the black molly - the way it stalked it round the tank and then literally speared it, i wont have my hands in there too close. However, when feeding lancefish, squid etc a pair of tongs suitable for morays or even a pair of scissors is fine. I've also found out that they can still "bash" things like a clubber! |
