Mez Ultimate Fish Guru Asian Hardfeather Enthusiast Posts: 3300 Votes: 162 Registered: 23-Feb-2001 | Hi guys. Picked up some different Macro Algaes today for my tank, starting to get there now. As you probably know by now its a 24g deltec d&d nano, which will eventually be a nice little reef..here's the first real start to seeing what this tank can actually achieve..just gotta keep up with the trimming now! Thanks for looking. James |

I'd personally rather not have them in my tank. The cheatomorpha should do real nice for nutrient control and the halimeda is nice for aesthetics. poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | *Agrees with matty* Caulerpa is really hard to keep in check. It can live through just about anything, too. The cheato should be easy enough to keep in check, but you'll have to trim it all the time. IME it's best to keep it free-floating... find a spot in the tank where the current is just right so it'll stay there and spin... it'll get light to the bottom of it and it won't die on the bottom. Other than that, it looks good Btw, what's that pink thing on the bottom? I'm assuming it's some sort of coral, but I don't recognize it... |

Joe Potato Fish Addict Kind of a Big Deal Posts: 869 Votes: 309 Registered: 09-Jan-2001 | Looks nice, James. SW has never really been my thing (anything with a SG of over 1.015 is EVIL! EVIL! ), but yours is shaping up nicely. It has a lot more green than most other tanks I've seen, not to mention that punk of a jawfish. |

Mez Ultimate Fish Guru Asian Hardfeather Enthusiast Posts: 3300 Votes: 162 Registered: 23-Feb-2001 | matty, how do i sow a mushroom to a rock? |
Posted 01-Feb-2008 20:14 | |
poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | Take a needle and thread, plop the mushroom where you want it on the rock, shove the needle through the mushroom and the rock, loop back around, and do it again on the other side. Usually 2-3 stitches will do the trick. Pliers and/or thimbles help, btw. I usually let shrooms settle out in rubble, or I'll use a plastic toothpick to stick it to a rock. |

Mez Ultimate Fish Guru Asian Hardfeather Enthusiast Posts: 3300 Votes: 162 Registered: 23-Feb-2001 | thanks for the tip. Any suggestions for additions to the tank, other than buildup of corals? Looking for a nice funky invert or two. |

poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | No, prob, Mez. IME the two best tips I could give you would be to have plenty of current and use good (read: RO/DI) water. I don't know what kind of water you've got in there, but it looks like you could use some more current. For funky inverts, just get whatever floats your boat that won't kill everything. There are a lot of fun species of shrimp, crabs, worms, cnidarians, etc that'd do good in your tank. Maybe some colorful nudibranchs? Sand sifting starfish? Nassarius snails? Upside down jellies? |

I'd pick up a hydor koralia 1 for that tank. Lots of flow from a little powerhead. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

mattyboombatty Moderator Tenellus Obsessor Posts: 2790 Kudos: 1507 Votes: 1301 Registered: 26-Mar-2004 | Might be too much for that tank. I think the modded maxi jets are supposed to put out like 1200 gph or something like that. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | Still, 1200gph isn't too much in a 24 gal tank. I've got over 2000gph of pumps in my 20 gal (w/10 gal sump). It just depends on how random the current is and how it's laid out. |

mattyboombatty Moderator Tenellus Obsessor Posts: 2790 Kudos: 1507 Votes: 1301 Registered: 26-Mar-2004 | I keep forgetting it's a 24g tank. I want to think it's half that for some reason. In that case I'd choose a koralia 3 (the 4s are just too big IMO) or a modded maxi jet. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |
