Got me a new coral today. Blue millipora. It`s my third SPS coral since my improved lighting. Any experience out there on these.

They are supposedly one of the sturdier acropora species. That still places them on the harder and higher light end of the spectrum, but I'm sure you can keep it healthy Mike. Nice specimen BTW.

I used to have 1 50/50 and 1 super actinic VHO and I now have 2 of each. I also have a reflector dome on top as to utilyze all the lighting. I paid 95 dollars for it Alex. Here is a pic of my lighting.

How is it doing under the lighting? Has it dropped any coloration and went to a green/brown shade? From my experience in order to keep the nice bright blue/purple color I had to keep them under halides or they would brown out.

LOL, Whats the matter Matt?

Ive seen all kinds of lighting come thru the hobby, and from my experience and seeing growth and coloration of the same coral under halides and t5, they always seem to do better under halides. Of course there are exceptions to this, very shallow prop tanks, etc...and tank conditions also play a very big part in it also.

I guess you could say that Im just a die hard halide guy. Yes they cost more to set up, more to run, and put off a lot more heat than any other lighting currently out there in the hobby...but IMO the results are much much better.

You will notice a trend in the hobby if you research and watch it closely. The T5 trend started in Germany and fizzled out over there already because everyone switched to T5's because they were the in thing. Now the trend is over here and they went back to good ole halides again because they werent getting what they wanted out of the T5's.

Not saying that T5's are a bad choice in lighting, just not my preference

So in that case do you think LED lighting like the solaris and all that will become just a phase as well?

Oh nuthin'. Thought I saw a ghost .

I'm enjoying my T5s TBH. I like the colors on the corals and the difference in heat. It's a step WAY up from PCs IMO. Maybe they don't produce like halides, but I think they are a good choice none the less, especially since the prices have made it a cheaper option than halides.

I have no plans to use the Icecap, no. If I wanted to, I could get away with only 2 bulbs with the ballasts I am currently using (people still underestimate the amount of light these put out). I only have 4 bulbs on for a couple hours a day. Extra light isn't necessary, especially when it adds extra heat and shortens bulb life.
