I had a heating disaster in my small tank and only one of my Danio survivied freezing his little ***** off.

I have been considering delving into saltwater, and I thought maybe I'd have a go with this one. It is only 32l, so I guess I could only put one or maybe two fish in there. I am reading up now, but I thought I'd also get some opinions.

Realisitically is this too small?

Also, the LFS sells 25l drums of sea water pretty cheap(from somewhere out past the heads in Sydney). This seems like a better option than making my own, but I thought I'd get opinions.

32 litres would be way to small for 2 fish, id advise against it unless you can get a larger tank.

The larger the volume of water, the more stable it will be and the easier it is to take care of. Your tank is awfully small for an introduction to saltwater, especially since the average new saltie keeper will make average newbie mistakes. It's the same as freshwater, really. If you have a nice big tank, your mistakes usually won't affect the water or fish because they will be absorbed by the large volume. Small tanks don't need a lot to crash though, so I'd wait to go saltie until you either have a bigger tank to work with or you've done lots and lots and lots of research.

I generally wouldn't recommend starting a saltwater tank with anything under 30 gallons. My friend usually says 50. Smaller tanks can be done... but it would be really hard. I don't think I'd ever go smaller than my current 44 gallon.

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns!

Thanks all. I ended up going freshwater again. Maybe when I'm more financial and can do some of the renovations I'll be able to factor in some space for a large tank, and then give the saltwater a go.
