...and Fire Shrimp, and Cleaner Shrimp, and CBS...maybe. I have talked to people who were able to keep Hawks with shrimp in Reef tanks with no problems.

One of those luck of the draw things. I researched getting a Long Nose Hawk for my 75 Reef tank, it seemed that it was about 50/50 with them eating shrimp. General consensus was that if the shrimp were already in the tank, the fish would likely not seem them as food if they were put into the tank later from above, like food is.

A $30 fire shrimp is a damn expensive prawn dinner, IMO

Shame you changed your mind.....I've been looking at switching my 29g fresh to marine. This post has really helped--what kind of cleaning would I have to do to the tank were I to make the swap? Would I have to bleach?

Hot water and some elbow grease should be more than sufficient.

I have to disagree on the overstocked, unless his 30ga is unusually tall.

Sure they might eat peppermint shrimp, but I don't like those anyway .

I still wouldn't try a tang--like before, I'd try to stick with a dwarf angel as your centerpiece fish.

To answer your earlier question, Coral Beauties get to roughly 4". Check out their profile at

http://]http://[/link][link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/sw/profile.asp?id=Centropyge+bispinosus

Flame Angels also reach almost 4", and can be seen at

http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/sw/profile.asp?id=Centropyge+loriculus

You might be able to handle a tang in a 55 USG(4') tank, but I've heard people say no less that 90 gallons would be sufficient. I guess it all depends on bio-load and, naturally, the type of tang. The smallest tang profiled on this site is the yellow tang, reaching almost 8".(Keep in mind, however, that only 4 tangs are profiled on the site.) Yellow tang at the following site...

http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/sw/profile.asp?id=Zebrasoma+flavescens

I'm assuming a 3' tank would be roughly 40 USG.....?

In that case, you MAY be able to have the tang in there, but as your ONLY fish. Personally, I would go with the Coral Beauty or the Flame.

Hope that was at least partially enlightening.

You could get a pair of clowns, a coral beuaty and a royal gramma . That would be a little full but likely okay. Then youe could add invertebrates as you choose and corals if you have the proper lighting
