I have a 75 gal with him and sixline, flame angle, percula clown, and a baby clown goby now!

How long will that last? He dont seem to mind them at all now but could or will that change as he gets bigger? I would say he is about 4 inches now, when he blows up its about 7inch ball, happins after 3wks if i dotn change water he is my water change monitor lol

anyways i was thinking about maybe a tank for my smaller fish and keeping the 75 for the puffer and maybe a bigger friend or 2 what you all think?

This is pretty terrible if you are letting your water conditions get out of hand enough to stress a puffer to the point of puffing up. From what I understand that should never happen, because it a sign of severe stress, and can possibly be very damaging to pufferfish. Like I said in your other post, you should be changing water weekly from now on and think about cutting back the feedings a little.

As far as tankmates, puffers aren't generally very aggressive. They can be a bit nippy sometimes, though. I'd let your experience with the fish in question tell you what to do here. If he seems aggressive, then move the smaller fish out. I'd probably at least move the clown goby, as he'll probably be a snack eventually.

Yes the clown goby and the percual will be out soon as i miss having inverts so i am thinking about a small nano type reef like 20 gal with only the 2 fish and easy corals like mushrooms, polpys, zoos i donno yet

As for the 75 i was thinking maybe a eel or a loin fish or maybe a tang as the yellow tang i had got along great in the tank with the puffer!

As for the puffer he aint showing any signs of wanting to hurt or eat any of my fish but he will eat anything we drop into the tank lol

Got a scientific name for the Porcupine Fish?

Reason I ask is that if it's a Diodon species such as Diodon hystrix or Diodon holacanthus, it's going to get BIG. As in 50 cm according to my Burgess' Mini-Atlas. That's a 20 inch fish - which is going to need a home a good deal bigger than a 75 in years to come.

Actually, I just checked the site's own profile for Diodon hystrix, and it says the fish is going to end up a whopping ninety centimetres in length - that's a 3ft fish! Fishbase agrees with this value.

Diodon holacanthus, though smaller, is still a 50 cm fish.

Either way, you're looking at a SERIOUS tank size upgrade to keep that fish long term.

Even the Chilomycterus species, which are smaller, are big fishes for the home marine aquarium - 25 cm minimum, and some reaching 40 cm.

I'd find out FAST what fish you have.

As for tankmates, well, again, if you're thinking of a Lionfish, be advised that a Pterois volitans, the most commonly supplied species in the trade among the bigger Lionfishes, is a LARGE fish - 35 cm, with a pectoral fin spread as much as 50 cm. A Volitans Lionfish is going to need large quarters too.

If you decide to run with a combination of a Lionfish and the Porcupine Fish, I would watch them both VERY CLOSELY to ensure that no compatibility issues arise, because if you end up having to rehouse one of them, then you're looking at TWO large aquaria.

Diodon hystrix hystrix
Paradiodon hystrix

I had him about 8 mo. and he has grown like maybe 1/2 inch they grow slow! From what i have been told is that it shouldnt get much bigger then a foot 12in total in my 75 gal and would take over 7 yrs!

The fish prolly will be remove if it gets to big as i cant have another large tank i am on the 3rd floor and i have a 75 gal and another tank bigger then 55gal will put me downstairs due to the floor breaking so like i said it will be returned if it comes to it!

ill prolly just leave them alone asi dont have the money to do a small reef tank now as i just got 2 dus and dont have a job so yeah i donno about all that, but if he gets out of hand or to big he will go back to the store yo umy word on that!
