im thinking about making the investment in an RO/DI system to purify the water for a reef tank. Does anyone have expierience or imput on this? i was looking at the Kent Marine Hi-S Maxxima 60 GPD RO/DI System. just if anyone has imput on the subject in general, i know my water is hard, and just knowing that if i can get it super prestine for marine peramiters....

Not sure what kind of input you're looking for, but if it makes you feel any more confident I'm a strong believer in the use of RO/DI water for marine tanks.

It helps remove things like phosphates and silicates from the water, which contribute to algae blooms and whatnot. Sure, it removes a lot of other beneficial essential elements too, but I think it's worth the money to put those back in in order to eliminate the bad stuff.

As for brands, I would suggest Spectrapure, Air Water Ice, or Water Generals (find on Ebay).

Get a combo unit instead of buying them seperatly, it's just easier.

you dont have to worry about what it takes out as far as mineral content.....your salt mix takes care of all the minerals you will need anyhow.

I agree with the posting that you should stick with those three companies though. They are all proven to work well and to produce good water. The one that is sold on ebay is sold under Filters Direct.

I myself use a Spectrapure unit, and that is the only unit that I will ever use. They are pricey, but IMO and through my research they offere the best membranes made.

The Kent units IME are ok units, but for some reason I know a lot of people that are/have sold them very cheap and bought a different unit after they had the Kent one for awhile. Ive just always stayed away from them and stuck with Spectrapure because water purification is their main and only business.

I have the Spectrapure MPDI-60

Spectrapure will be more expensive, but that doesnt bother me because I know that they design and closely supervise all of the products leaving their doors. Even with their RO membranes they run random tests on them. They are a company that knows their stuff to, and are very helpful if you ever have a problem....even the owner answers the phone and helps with tech support

Spectrapure is just a brand that I trust because of my dealings with them when I worked in the SW industry. Im not saying that there are not cheaper alternatives out there because i know that there are. Im just not one to really look at price when it comes to equipment....I know that not everyone can do that though. As I said, the filter direct units are CHEAP on ebay and there are quite a few people using them in the hobby that are happy with them
