Hey everyone,

I wasn't sure where to put this post, so if its in the wrong place, sorry. My dad told me that he was interested in shark tanks, and so was I. So after reading this month TFH magazine, we decided that we would do it. My dad has tons of experience in saltwater tanks, but he wanted me to ask what kind of a setup I would need, and what kind of sharks we would be able to buy.

Thanks

i dont have any expierence with sharks, but they grow obviuosly, so be prepared, your going to need a really really big tank, def custom made. theres a tank at one of my lfs here in cincinnati, they built their tank out of cinder blocks is what it appear like, then covered the bottom with some sort of cement is what i looked like( all of this didnt effect the water, so maybe they cover the block walls with a kind of plexi then sealed it, so none of the water was touching the blocks itself, the bottom of the tank was lower than the floor, and the sides of the tank had small windows in it. it seemd like this structure was about 45 feet long and about 25 wide, dug into the ground about but in say about 9 feet deep. i dont know where you would be able to put sothing liek that unless your going to put it in your basement then finish it... they need alot of room to swim... hope that setup gives you some ideas

The size of the tank depends on the tipe of shark. The smallest and cheapest sharks avaliable are the bamboo and catcharks. These get about 3 feet long and need tanks in the 300-500 gallon range (something like 7'x3'). Then come horn sharks which need slightly larger tanks. "Real sharks" like blacktips, leopards need tanks of 3000-5000 gallons. Bonnetteheads can live in slightly less.

Thanks a lot everyone, that really helps. I'm going to my LFS tomorrow most likely, because the guy who owns it really knows what hes talking about too. i'll tell him about the setup SwiftShark88 mentioned, and ask about the sharks djtj said. i'll most likely only get the small ones, so We'll probably get like a 500 maybe.

thanks again,

GrimZ
