hello!

i have a 10G marine tank (my first!) that has been set up and running since approx. january. it has 10lbs of live sand in it and argonite as a substrate. so far it houses a few hermit crabs, some turbo snails (just added today) and a firefish.

recently a bunch of very tiny snails (they look like freshwater ramshorns) have appeared on the glass. they are white and about 1-2 mm across. is this normal? are they safe?

just curious! thanks in advance

Lots of little snails and hitchhikers can come out of liverock. Usually they are cerith snails but ceriths have cone shaped shells not round spirals. If they are round I'm not sure what they are. You'll probably have to wait till they grow a little or get a magnifying glass for a more detailed description. For the most part snails are safe and beneficial to the tank. There are however some species that might eat coralline algae or bother some corals but most likely the snails you have are fine.
