From what I've heard, the maxijets tend to last a little longer, and are a little better made. But I don't think it makes a ton of difference.

Did I want the Maxijet 1200 or the Rio 800 for the Remora skimmer?

Thanks!

If tank raised i would say a pair of false or true percs would be fine in a 20g, wild caught tend to be that bit more fragile.
Im not familar with that skimmer but i reckon you should stock your tank like you have no skimmer. then if you get caught up or too busy it dont matter if you miss a weekly water change as your skimmer should cover you.
Some people may disagree with this theroy though...

So then:
1 Marineland Penguin 100 Bio-wheel power filter
1 Remora skimmer (either Maxijet or Rio pump)
1 100 watt heater
1 thermometer
1 Powerhead
1 Hood (with lights, duh)
And that'll be all the major tank equipment, right?

A question: will the good skimmer make the bio-capacity any larger? That'd be great!!!

Well do you want a deep sand bed for the natural reduction of nitrates? If so, then make it at least 4 inches deep.

If you want it just for looks, then have it however you'd like.

I will (eventually) be able to pay for the Remora skimmer. Do I want the Maxijet 1200 or the Rio 800 pump? Will the Remora be to big? It's only a 20...

How many lbs. of sand will I need? I'm not planning on keeping anything that burrows, so about how many inches?
Thanks!

Speaking from experience with the Prizm....they tend to stop working after awhile. No matter what you do you cant get the performance back up to what it was when the skimmer was new.

IMO, Id save your money till you can afford a Remora skimmer instead of wasting it on a skimmer that doesnt work well.

We use a prizm skimmer on one of the tanks we cure live rock in at work.

I def. dont recommend them for larger tanks...but I suppose for a small tank it wouldn't be a TERRIBLE choice.

It does work...but there are many skimmers that will work a lot better and pull a LOT more gunk out of your water. I get frustrated with the prizm a lot, but it is an economical choice that will work.

What's your budget for a skimmer?
