I need opinions on something I can't explain. I was keeping a small condy(1.5" diameter base) in a little 20 gallon long I have been using to conduct experiments, mainly shallow water lighting and wave simulation, and the thing managed to squeeze its way into my overflow box and fall into the sump. Well, I have a pre-filter grate in the sump that has 1/16" spacing and that little condy managed to squeeze it’s tendrils through the grate but obviously could not gets its base through. Now you may think me ruthless, but to avoid a polluted tanked I surgically removed it. That was about 3 weeks ago, and my nitrates were starting to hit 15ppm (from feeding my hermits in it) so I did a little water change, and what did I find while dismantling my sump but a tiny condy with about a half inch base stuck the exact same way the other on was.
Now, can someone please tell me where this phantom condy came from?
I'f you've only ever bought one condy, then it was probably split off from the original. And you'd be surprised what the base can fit through. I bet it would have squeezed through that opening. Also if you have any anemones, or similar mobile inverts, you should cover all powerheads and overflow grates with sponge for reasons such as this.

Hmm...I have never known a condy to split but I suppose I should have expected that, seeing as how I have sat and watched bubble tips split. I was expecting something like aiptasia regrowth to explain it, I consider condys to be among the lower forms of anemones(not good at hosting clowns ), but thats just me. Thank you for your reply.
