I have a friend who is interested in saltwater fish, espescially clownfish. I told him to keep freshwater for atleast a year or so before he ventures in to salt as he's never kept fish before. He visited the local chain store the other day, and the employee fed him this steaming nugget:

"oh jeez. You could easily keep like 5 clownfish in a betta tank. They don't need a lot of room, they'll just grow to the size of the tank. People just say things like that."

Okay, well that is absolutely a big fat lie! You can tell him off ]:| for me because of these reasons:

1) Bettas are freshwater
2) Clownfish need a much bigger tank
3) Clownfish need coral
4) Giving false information

Go and tell him! And I wanna hear about what happens (If you do tell him off, of course).

And could you ask him some questions about fish? See how many he gets wrong so we can hear how much he doesn't know about fish.

Im afraid you are guilty of giving false information yourself. Clownfish DO NOT NEED CORALS to live. Thats just a lie. In fact, a clownfish would do quite fine in a FO tank.

They do need larger tanks. A 29 gallon would be perfect for a pair of smaller clowns. It really isn't much more work than FW, it can be quite a bit more expensive though. I only kept FW for a very short time before I got bit by the SW bug.

depending on the size of clowns...it is trun that they don't need big tanks....but not as small as a betta tank..(I am assuming "betta" tanks are tanks that hold like 1-2 litre)...

Teach me if you can fit a filter and heater in a tank like that....and yes..clowns never need corals (or u mean anemone? but they dun need that as well)

Clowns basicaly can't live together(5....lol) ...I didn't believe it and my Clowns proved me wrong
