ohhhh boy

the moment has finally arrived...

I knew if I was patient, this would work out...

Just imagine my excitement when I got a PM saying Psuedanthias smithvanizi was on the wholesalers list.

Did a group order w/ some guys in the club...got 8 of my babies coming in.

But now I'm kind of panicking.

Picking up my new tank tonight.

Dont know when the shishies are coming...the order was just put through today...so i'm guessing a couple days...

The basement isn't totally done; I dont know how soon I can set the new tank up...

There's no "real" fish in my main display...so technically they dont need to be put in qt...but maybe I should just set up a basic basic qt tank for them so they dont go through the stress of moving tanks 32904823 times?

I also need to stock up on the just in case food/meds for picky eaters and whatnot.

I feel like i'm planning for the arrival of a child for crying out loud!

Please help me figure out what to do. I'm very happy and very panicked. It's bittersweet...

Congrats Ferret, I can't wait to see some pics of those beauties! I guess I'd tend to put them in QT for a while. That way if you unfortunately have to medicate, you won't have to medicate your display, or try to catch them out. Moving them less is also a benefit. They are definately a fish I'd set up a QT for.

i agree with matty. With most fish should be put in QT for at least a week (bear minimum) especially these fish. O yeah if they dont want to eat when you first get them you can try using a liquid garlic that you put fish food in. It will attract the fish because the are sensetive to smell.

I'm worried lack of LR will freak them out though.

And I'm well aware of the garlic thing, I feed Kent extract with everything, but unfortunately it's going to take more than garlic to get these guys to eat I think...

Oh yeah...

Know anyone with an amphipod refugium for feeding Mandarin Fishes?

I think it pretty unlikely that your new acquisitions (oh, and MANY congratulations by the way - I know you've been after these a LONG time!) would refuse live amphipods. Even if they're 'picky' feeders, I doubt they'd refuse a sudden helping of such morsels.

I'd also consider setting up your own amphipod refugium to help keep these guys happy.

By the way, you're getting eight of these? Wow, you must have come into a LOT of money of late!

Most fish will take to large chunks of PVC in a QT if you can't throw in a couple peices of LR from your display.

Okay.

So I ordered 8, I was told that only 4 were left, but then a surprise number 5 came in with the order.

Their plane got delayed which means they didn't actually get to my tank until 9:45 PM. I floated them for prolly 20-25 minutes, then they were transferred to a bucket. I dripped for a good 20-25...then they showed signs of lethargy so I moved them to the tank. Lights had been off already. I think 3/5 played dead when I first put them in, but they snapped back to life quickly and swam off to the back.

Since I got home from school today I've only seen 4, but I'm pretty happy with that. These guys are the size of my pinky finger, not even. They're so tiny!!!

I've got food defrosting right now, I think I'm going to try brine because it's smaller than mysis. I have roti's too, hoping to pick up some cyclopeeze soon.

Pictures soon.

Everybody keep those fingers crossed!

I'm trying to keep up with feedings...

The littlest guy hasn't showed up for 12 hours now.

3/5 visibly eating and whatnot.

*fingers crossed*

Pictures soon I promise.

Got my fingers crossed for you Ferret ... didn't realise they were that small ... if you have at least 3 feeding then that's a good sign. As for the tiny one that's done a disappearing act, it's just possible he's in hiding somewhere, but I'd prepare for the worst with that poor little guy.

Hoping they all make it through - you've waited a LONG time for these, and I know you'll be a good Mom to them!
