hi i have had my marine tank a long while, however the situation i'm in at the mo is the fact that i have run out of marine salt, but i still have some tonic salt from my freshwater tank. Is it ok to use this tonic salt in my marine tank as i cant get to the lfs for a couple of weeks and the water is dropping down a little low!<br><br>Any help is welcome thanks!

Its not the same thing, and it won't work. I'd suggest finding a way to the LFS.

Also, if the water is merely evaporating, you DON'T want to add salt when you fill it back up. Salt doesn't evaporate, just water; if you fill it back up with saltwater, you'll be siginicantly raising the salinity.

when you are replacing evporated water..never add any salt, only use freshwater.

But if you are talking about water changes...then you need to find some other shop...marine salt is different.

i no not to add salt to water that is evapourating, cause the salt stays in the water but my salt level is beginning to drop that y i asked!

you just have to find a source of marine salt...no other way around

or if you have proper filtering equipement, you can always use natural sea water
