Hey all i have finally purchased some live rock for my system. i noticed that some pieces have very dark spots on them, i have tried to scrub most of the dead spots off but just to be sure those very dark brown almost black spots are dead spots right? i tried to sniff one of the rock that had this "dead spot" on it and i didnt notice any funny odors. should i keep the dead spot rocks away from the good rocks? or will all of the rocks have some kind of die off.

All the rock will most likely have some die off on it depending on how it was shipped/where you got it. You can remove the dead spots from the rock if you wish to help keep the ammonia levels down, but its not necessary

dark does not necessarly mean its dead, it could be a dark spot because of algae. It only starts to smell once there is alot of die off.

I was told that a live rock ( half or not cured ) will stink like heck. From what I've read above, it seems to be the opposite. Was I misinformed ?
