Gerber77 Fingerling Posts: 44 Votes: 0 Registered: 02-Feb-2005 | I have a 29 gallon tank I have just setup. I have 15 pounds of live rock. I am using a power filter and am also using an undergrvel filter. I am wondering if I would need a protein skimmer or if I will be ok without it. I am planning on doing two gallon water changes weekly. Any help would be great. Also I wouldn't mind some stocking suggestions. Thanks |

You gotta keep up with the maint on them or else I think you'll see some ungodly levels during routine water testing... I vote small protein skimmer and ditch the other filters. Or at least the UGF. HOBs are okay for extra biological filtration, or if you wanna run carbon or something. But that's just my opinion. Stocking! Oh boy...fun fun. Listen, I could suggest lotsss of fish right now, but I suggest you read the cookie cutter list for nano tanks first to give you some ideas, and then we'll work from there. Are you willing to buy online? How much are you willing to spend? Are you looking for a couple smaller fish, a few medium sized fish, or one biggish fish? What's available to you locally? Anything tank raised or captive bred? And most importantly, what interests you?! Are you looking for specific colors or anything? Narrow down the possibilies a bit, and then I'd be more than willing to offer some suggestions. HTH! -Ferret -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

I am planning on doing two gallon water changes weekly. You will most likely find that you will need to up the water change amount to 5 gallons weekly in order to keep up with nitrate, especially if you stock with more than a couple fish.....and more so if you keep the UGF with the crushed coral |
