A thirty gallon would be fine as long as you are sure that you know what you're doing and are confident that you'll be able to keep stable water parameters. Marine tanks in general (and especially reef tanks) are more time-consuming than freshwater fish tanks and in most cases require a larger basic body of knowledge.

I suggest doing a lot of research through books and the Internet if you are serious about setting up a saltwater tank. They are more involving than freshwater, more expensive, and assume more technical knowledge (equipment, water parameters and composition, animal compatibility, etc.) from the owner. Saltwater tanks are very cool, but you need to make sure you're confident in your ability to care for one or you may get burned.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I am currently in the process of preparing for a reef tank. If this helps any, here is my thread on this very subject.

...and as everyone says... Welcom to the Dark Side!...

I hope you enjoy it as much as I all ready have, and I haven't even bought my tank yet!
