fw test kits vs sw | |
niggit Fish Addict Posts: 631 Kudos: 282 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Jan-2003 | hi i was just wondering if there is really any difference between the chemicals used for fresh water test kits and those used for saltwater. i know that the readings can be a little different (ie 20 ppm is okay for fw, but lower for marine, etc...). i also know that i'll need a higher range pH test kit. but, otherwise would the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate test kits i have for freshwater work? thanks! p.s. what about test kits for saltwater swimming pools? would these be a cheaper alternative? |

Some kits are universal and can be used for freshwater or saltwater. You have to read the box and find out. What brand test kits do you have? Yes, you'll need higher range pH, and a more accurate one than most freshwater kits. You might as well just get a pinpoint pH monitor or something because it's a really critical level. I recommend Salifert test kits all around. -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |
