I was wondering how many shrimp, snails, and crabs I should have in a 30 gallon tank. I want to have:

cleaner shrimp
blood shrimp
peppermint shrimp
snails (any reccomendations?)
scarlet hermit crabs
hawaiin strawberry crab
blueleg hermit crabs

All of these are supposed to be docile species. Do you think they're compatible and how many of each should I get to keep the aquarium clean, yet keep them fed?

Thank you

1 to 2 snails or hermits per gallon.IMO, One of each of the Shrimp should be OK.I have 5 in my 75g and they all hang out in the same area without any aggression.

Thanks, I think I'll go with one of each kind of shrimp like you suggested, and I'll do snails and hermits like this:
10 turbo snails
10 cerith snails
10 blue leg hermits
5 hawaiin strawberry crabs
3 porcelain crabs
1 boxing crab

Tell me what you think

Replace the Turbo snails with Trochus snails. They tend to stay upright while the Turbos tend to fall over and become lunch.
No experiance with those crabs.
I do have a crab much like the strawberry, except he has a white carapace.I moved him to the refugium since he was munching on my coraline algea.

Yes, I would suggest the change to Trochus snails too. And one other thing, is the blood shrimp you are refering to the blood red fire shrimp? If so, you may want to not get him, as they have been known to kill and eat other shrimps in the tank. The other shrimp you listed usually get along with each other fine.

I am not arguing since most people say the same thing. One of the LFS owners around here does though. He told me I could get as many as I want in my tank.He says he has had as many 10 in a 30g with no problems.
I did have 1 Fire,1 Peppermint and 1 Skunk in my 75 with no agression.
When I say did have ,I poisened them a few months ago.
As I might of said my 2 Fire shrimps are getting along great as of now they share the same cave. One is alot darker than the other,Male/Female pair mabey? The 3 other peppermints I don't see much though.
Thinking of switching them with camel shrimp soon.

Hmmmm.... I know most people on here and most websites recommend 1-2 turbo snails/gallon but what about for smaller tanks. I have a 20 FOWLR and had only 2 turbos for that (with about 22 lbs LR) and they kept evrything spotless. I actually had to feed seaweed on a regular basis. So my point is for a smaller tank, wouldn't it be better to have fewer snails/gallon? Or did I just have really hungry snails?

Camel back shrimp eat button polyps. So no zoas or anything similar. I suppose you could say they are not reef safe.
