what shark is this in the 10 gallon? u may want to sell it to the store, and maybe use that tank to restart the rock? im not expert on saltwater either

u may want to slow down, and maybe start with a freshwater tank, one u can enjoy, then, after u think u have the basics down, maybe start back up with the salt water?

(im afariad of the dark side......)

(hey nate, i think i understand ur name now)

im doing a fish only tank u get more fish and it looks grate

Actually with a fish only tank you would be better off to have less fish because you dont have any live rock in the tank to aid in water quality. You also dont have the critters to help keep the detrius levels down.

The Mike Paletta book is a good book, but IMO it is VERY outdated even though it wasnt published long ago.

Sorry saw it above fo tank sorry.

I also looked at the dates of the posting norrec!!
Salt water went in jun 12, how is that five weeks??!! just keep it stable dont add ANYthing just let it set. Whats your water parameters? who told you your cycle's over? You alredy have a/fish in there? is it okay? It's a clown (For personal interest...what kind I think there beautiful but thats off the subject!!) Oh ya also for personal interest what kind of damseldo you have?--I have a GREAT book!! It talks about starting a marine tankand also all about diffrent sorts of fish in the later chapters. Any ways but "now" just wait and see what happens. I got (4) Damsels. One was i guess sick when i baught him he didnt like to eat my mom says he probly got coaght on the reef and was not going to adapt to tank life. from now on we ask the lfs to feed the fish in the tank before we buy! but I have three damsels in my tank and 6 very very small hermit crabs (---) <--- thats the biggest one. and now I'm just gonna let it sit for like 4 to 6 weeks.

It'd been five weeks?! How'd you cycle your tank? just added live fish??

I'm asking because all I've ever done is FW so I'm a newby too when it comes to SW. Are you planning a FO tank or a FOWLR tank? Are you going to be building a reef or no?

Michael Paletta has a great paperback book on setting up a saltwater tank, called "The New Marine Aquarium." It's really easy to read and to understand; I highly recommend it. It talks all about cycling, live rock, etc.

No, it's not a good combo...Yet.

DRO is right, you need to get that tank cycled! Either get more new uncured live rock, or some additive like BioSpira or New and Improved Cycle. Those will get your bacterias started, and then you can monitor ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte (and pH of course, but that doesn't directly effect cycling) with test kits.

You NEED to CYCLE the tank before adding any animals to it...Please research and cycle before buying any animals.

Agree with Ferret on everything she said....

IMO I would find another LFS, preferably one that gives good advice.

Ive said it in all the other threads you have posted..SLOW down. Take some time to read some good current books on the SW hobby.

Check out Reef Invertebrates by Anthony Calfo and Robert Fenner. It's a great read, it'll become your marine bible over time. I think Nate will agree with me on this.

Yup, I would totally agree with you on that....why wouldnt I when I think I suggested the book to you? It is a great book, with a LOT of information in it, and the best thing is its up to date! Its also a very fun book to read because of the authors style of writing.

Ermm...I really dont think that your dead live rock is adding toxins to the water. >.< I think this is just referred as base rock, and eventually overtime it can become live again. I'd leave it in there, add a couple fresh pieces when you get your saltwater mixed, and then go from there.

I cant see where the live rock would be harming your tank...it's natural stuff found out on the reef, made of calcerous (sp.) remains, I dont get how it can be bad. *shrug*

Best of luck, keep posting your questions.
