im going back to college and i plan on taking a 20eclipse tank that will hopefully house a shortnose batfish. i have minimal info on these guys avalibilty and there compatible tank mates. either info would be great

They get much too large for that size tank. They get like 16 inches long. As for tank mates, anything they can't fit into their mouths. They are not very aggressive fish.

the book that i read at the store said they were a moderate maintness and the minimal size tank would be a 5usg. are there different types of shortnose batfish?

The batfish I have seen and heard about are around 2-3 times taller than their height. I agree with acidrain on the tank size.
