I have a question, i am currently starting a 60 gallon saltwater fowlr (very little live rock). I just recieved a seclone to hook up to my aquarium. I dont have the directions, but i have it hooked up porperly. My question is...how do i adjust the airline hose to have the proper amount of air in the system. I dont know when t is to much, or to little. What is the purpose of having the air line. Any info would be great.

thanks alot for the help

john

go for it...

UGFs are bad...IMO. Gunk just get trapped and ammonias, nitrItes, nitrAtes...you name it, it starts to accumulate. Is the tank already set up? And what's the brand of this filter skimmer skilter you speak of...?

the tank is setup with an undergravel filter, the skimmer is a sea clone by aquarium systems. I am running two powerhead on the UG filter. It seems to be doing well at this time. I am currently cycling the water to get things running perfectly.

You will want to adjust the airflow to produce a dry foam that overflows into the collection cup. The air hose (Venturi) is what is injecting the skimmer with bubbles for the skimmer to work.

It just takes some playing around with to get it just right.....which you might be doing quite often with the seaclone skimmer. They are not that good of a skimmer and most report that you have to constantly adjust them to continue getting a good skimmate

Once the dry foam bubbles pop, they will turn into a water. Pretty much a dry foam is ...well, dry It is sticky? , and will stick to the sides of the collection cup instead of turning into water right away and going to the bottom.

Heres a pic of dry foam coming out of a skimmer.

how long does it usually take to get a dry foam, all i see to be getting is wet foam which turns into water. Im not having any luck with this

EDIT...i decided to take the skimmer back to the store where is got it. I just got home a bit ago and realized, the conection at the bottom of the skimmer was faulty and that i lost about 3 gallons of water out of my tank.

I never got foam from my Seaclone, and I had it for six months. And the connectors for the tubing are really fiddly; I found one time it started to leak after I'd cleaned it. I returned mine. I'm told the venturi valve on it is really finicky, too.

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns!
