How much LR?

You already have a lot of fish though. Even if you do have an adaquate amount, you probably shouldn't add anything else. Especially if its a reef tank.

Mandarins are an extremely hard species to keep due to its need for amphipods or copepods to survive. It is commonly thought that a tank of at least 100 gals with well established live rock is needed to support one Mandarin, and that is if there are no other fish competing for the pods. Now you can use a smaller tank, but then there is the need for a refugium (usually fishless), to help supply the needed pods. Here is a link to good article on keeping Mandarins.

thats the one. gota hate the way live aquaria suggests a 30 gallon tank.
ive been doing a bit of reading and came across the idea of "pod piles" where u build live rock rubble into a stucture into which the pods can breed and no fish can enter. these are meant to be able to sustain a mandarin without a refugium in a much smaller tank. any one heard of or had success with this idea?
and space and requirements aside is it still over stocking?

It seems like a lot of fish to me. But of course I only have a couple in my 75, so maybe since I'm well understocked you seem overstocked?

There are also products avaliable now that you can buy that are live cop. pods in a bottle that can be shipped. I actually should buy some more soon. I bought two bottles a couple months ago with good results. Doesn't hurt to add some extra pods every once in awhile.

First, they are wrong. Plain and simple. As for "overstocking" as in biological load? No it is not overstocked. But, they will not have enough food to eat. That is, enough food that is required by them.

The reason I asked about the name, is there are a couple I have heard by that name, and just wanted to know the exact one you were talking about.
