depends on the type of barbs, as some barbs are larger than others and require different set-ups.

they type of fish is up to you, as it is a personal choice.

tiger barbs tend to be a favorite among beginning aquariaist as they are very common and hardy. but unfort like most barbs they are fin nippers so if you are planning on housing other fish with them youm ust take that into consideration.

another favorite is the rosy barb, which comes in many forms. my favorite is the long finned form.

again given your tank is cycled and ready for fish the type of fish that you want is up to you and then you should come back and post what types of fishes you like and the numbers can be figured out.

Yes you should get a heater. Tropical fish like temperatures around 74-80F degrees, which is above room temp.

If you go with tiger barbs, I would get 8.

For the rest of the stocking, I would go with:
8 tiger barbs
3 ottos

Like mentioned before, alot of barbs, including tiger barbs, are fin nippers. So, if you choose to keep them in this 15g, there aren't many more options for tankmates, especially those that share the same level as the barbs.

Another thing is that the tank is on the smaller side, so where in a 29g tank you could have the barbs and maybe some serpae tetras (that are also nippy), you don't have room for them in the 15g.

I also don't recommend cories for anything under 20g. That's my personal belief...that they need atleast a 20g to be happy. You may be able to have a school of pygmy cories, but they may be harrassed by the barbs.

Just something to think about.

Another option would be cherry barbs. They're quite peaceful and can be kept in pairs. They look very nice in a planted tank

Cherry barbs are a good idea. I would get 3 (1m/2f).

Then you could have a school of smaller tetras.

Why are you set on barbs?

You could have a nice school of Harlequin Rasboras in there, with a dwarf gourami or betta as centerpiece.

Personally i think tiger barbs are too big and active for a 15 (they can get to 3" I would reccomend Cherry Barbs, you could probably have 5 or 6
