80 Gallon Stocking Q's | |
Purpleosiris Small Fry Posts: 14 Kudos: 8 Votes: 2 Registered: 20-Jun-2006 | Hello I am posting to ask a few questions about an 80 gallon planted tank I have. I would like to know if I can put some angelfish in my tank. I also have a 29 gallon & a 55 gallon, the 55 is currently running but with no fish. I already have some fish in the 29 (three small angelfish) but as this tank is a little on the small side for three I wanted to know if I can move them to the 80 with as little problems as possible. The fish in my 80 gallon are as follows.. 5 Black skirt tetras 5 Bleeding heart tetras 2 weather loaches 3 glo light neons around 10-15 corys (hard to count) 1 glassfish 3 zebra danios 1 upsidedown catfish 1 baby common pleco (about 3.5 inches) 1 rubbernose pleco (3.5 in.) 3 baby bala sharks (Friends fish that are to be moved when his tank is cycled) Now I know the neons will be a problem but they can be moved to the 29 gallon if the angels go in. Other then that im in the dark as to what can go together, the corys should be fine. This is also a planted tank as I said before. My concern is with the tetras.... As well I know some fish are "better off" with more in the group like the glassfish but as my lfs does not carry much at one time it's hard to get a "family" all at once. I really really want the angels in the 80 gallon but the hubby thinks it's a lost cause. So ANY help in this matter would be good. Thanks for taking the time to read this post Purple Osiris This tank used to be stocked with some other fish as well but since then they have been sold so please don't give me heck if you see my other post EDIT: haha There is also 5 ottos little buggers are hard to see!! |

I would definitely put the Angels in the 80g, 29 isnt enough room for 3, only 2. I would remove the neons to the 29 after the angels are moved, and add at least 3 more, they need a school. Same with the glassfish. Just ask your LFS to hold 5 glassfish for you, offer to pay for them in advance. I also would add at least 3 more zebra danios, again, a schooling fish. My last comment is about the common pleco. Id get rid of this fish. 80g isnt enough for a fish that reach 20-24 inches in length. Also, once it gets big, it will probably destroy your nice planted tank by thrashing and ripping plants out. Common plecos are MASSIVE. For an 80g tank, I would go with a pleco that reaches no more than 8-10 inches max. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

I did start with 6 danios but three died due to lfs conditions before I got them home. As for my plec I only keep em until there about 5 inchs then my friend takes them to his beautiful outdoor pond. I knew they got quite big my problem is there pooping So all of my fish can go together except the neons? Wow some luck there! Any more opinions would be great as well!! Purple Osiris |
