The thing to always remember is that with a larger tank, the duty of regular water changes is more time consuming as well as overall maintenance. I personally feel that a tank of 25 to 30 gallons is a really good tank to begin with as it is large enough to place an assortment of smaller species in as well as small enough as to not overwhelm the beginner with maintenance. ![]() ![]() |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() ![]() | welcome to fp, and it is perfectly fine to be posting lots of questions, we all do from time to time... If I were you, I would get the largest tank that you can afford and have room for at the time...I began with my 20, but decided that it wasn't enough, then moved to a 29, with 3-10 for the guppies, and it still wasn't enough though the guppies were fine in it:%)The next year I increased to a 55, and then this year a 125...if I had it to do over again, and could I probably would have skipped the 29 and gotten a 55 or 75, though I'm afraid of what I would be at now ![]() Bottom line is, how much can you afford? How much room do you have? You have room for a 125, and the money, along with the want...go for it, otherwise my guppies are great in the 29...along with the fry tank of a 20...before you buy check around and see who has the best deals on tanks and stands...Feel free to go into lfs you haven't visited, take the chance and see if they will give you a discount for paying cash, see if they deliver, ask you might be pleasantly surprised... As far as what to put in the tank...if you got a 125 you don't want to set the guppies free in there, unless you have something a little more carnivorous in there with them. Guppies, and some tetras go well together, along with corries. Check your lfs see what size of tank you can afford, and see what fish strike your fancy...and report back to us...
