I just read on here about a 125 gallon package going for $380 or something ridiculous like that.
At my lfs and lfs's within about 300 miles of my place, a 25 gallon kit runs about $250. If you want a 55 gallon your pushing out close to $450. An 80 gallon? Anywhere between $600 and $1100. For an 80 gallon kit with canopy, lights, filter, decorations etc and a nice wooden stand, you're looking at close to $1700. The only 125 gallon i've seen was $1099 with nothing included but the tank and the stand. Why are they so expensive here in Saskatchewan, Canada? ARGH!

Canada is definitely more expensive than the USA for most stuff and including tanks and definintely buying ghost shrimp. And Sask. is probably more than Alberta due to location and the amount of people that support that market.
For an 80 gallon kit with canopy, lights, filter, decorations etc and a nice wooden stand, you're looking at close to $1700.

It might be worth your while to drive into Edmonton or Calgary to buy your aquarium. Don't know how far it is to you, but you definitely could find a deal better than that
Here are some prices I know
Oceanic 55gal cube tank and stand close to $500
hagen 72g tank only $264, sliding lid $45
perfecto $75 tank $179, glass lid $50, stand $150 to $375
oceanic bowfront 72g with stand and light $699-$799 I seen this combo on sale for $599 before
Hagen 72 gal(trimless top) stand eurotop(light biult in lid) $600-700
33gal starter kit $150
10 gal starter kit $40
25 gal $99

Do you have a petcetera near you? I know the largest tank they sell is 55g, but they are usually half the price the smaller LFS are.
At Petcetera here in BC, I paid 88.88 for my 25g tall tank, and 39.96 for my 10g tank. Both came with heaters, UGF, hood, light, and assorted accessories. I did replace the UGF's, but all in all, it was a good deal. My 25g was cheaper than the 10g my sister bought in a small LFS- which ran her over 100 bucks- just cuz it says Hagen on it.
At a smaller LFS right now here, you can get a 125g tank with sliding glass top, stand, 2 fluval 404 filters, 2 300w submersible heaters, your choice of any 50lbs of substrate (not enough but a good start) -either Tahitian Moon Sand, Regular Sand, Gravel of many colors, or Flourite. The price is 649.99 -add 75 bucks if you want the double compact flourescent which is 280watts.
I think that is one of the best deals Ive seen yet.
They also have a 75g custom bowfront, which comes with a solid mahogany stand, 1 fluval 404 filter, 2 200w submersibles, and double compact flourescent light 280watts for 499.99 - also a sweet deal.
It really pays to look around- check if you have a Paws n Jaws or a Petcetera near you.
Also, keep your eye out in the papers and buy sell n trade for used tanks.

The reason the prices are so high is that you're looking at the LFSs. The tanks they sell are always REALLY expensive. You might want to look in the classifieds, or something. I've bought virtually all my tanks used. They are all still good quality, but they're 20 times cheaper than buying it new. I got a 55 gallon tank, stand, light, fluval filter, and a bunch of other random stuff like thermometers, nets, water stuff, etc, all for $175. Actually, looking back on it, I could've found an even better deal than that. Right now I'm on the look-out for a 125 gallon with tank, stand, canopy, and other accessories. I don't expect to pay more than $250-300.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Majority of those prices are coming from Petland in Medicine Hat, AB.
I live in a smaller city (about 40,000) so the market here is pretty small. Not a whole lot of used tanks up for sale that's for sure.

The 125 you were reading about on the site is used....like janna said used tanks can go for really cheap, just keep an eye on the paper. Alot of times it's someone that just got in over their head. As a tip, clarify the measurements of the tank before even considering it...I've known people who advertise a 75 when it was only a 55 .

If its glass your looking at then I've found out that thicker glass is waaaaaay more expensive it gets. At my LFS they have two tanks almost identical one is 60g ($100) tank hood and light and one is $325 tank hood and light. The only differance is that the more expensive one has glass almost 25% thicker than the glass on the cheaper aquarium. And the employees at my LFS store assured me that that was (though an important thing) but the only differance between the two tanks.
