Hey guys,

Im back after a fishy absence of a year or so.

My girlfriend and i are setting up a tank at her house.
Have all the equipment in the know how etc.

Just wondering if vinegar would be good to use with a cloth to wipe around the tank, then rinse with tap water to clean the tank before setting it up etc?

im about to clean it now, so quick response would be great

ta,
Luke

Vinegar should be fine.. just rinse really well.. regular bleach is good too.. just have to keep rinsing till the smell of vinegar/bleach disappears!

good luck!

Plain water should suffice.

If there's dried on crud that wont come off after a soak you can try scrubbing with a cloth and aquarium salt.

Vinegar would be fine as stated just make sure that it's rinsed out well. I believe it was used at one point to ajust ph.
Bleach can be used in a 10:1 water:bleach ratio, although it shouldn't really be necessary. If it's been sitting in storage for that long it's not likely that any diseases would have survived. After rinsing any bleach out give it a good rinse rinse rinse dechlor rinse rinse rinse, dechlor and sit it in the sun for a day. The UV breaks down bleach.

Also...if it's been dry you may want to check the seals by setting it on newspaper, carefully fill the tank without dripping anywhere, then wait a day. If there are any water marks on the newspaper you'll know it's leaking and you may want to reconsider.

^_^
