Ok, I HAD a pygmy pufferfish tank, but they died while on a 3 week vacation. (Sitter probably messed something up) I also had a 10 for breeding snails. however, I know have 2 10 gallon tanks in my bedroom to stock.I am thinking for one, plants and panda corys. Love those corys What type of substrate should I use? I tried sand once a while back, and the poo got into the sand. not very good for the water replaced with gravel. And what plants? lol.
The tank I'm thinking for corys has no filter, or light. (Snail tank.) What type of light should I get? Filter ideas?

And what plants?

Give me ideas for the other tank!

I know you people love to give tank suggestions

Thanks everyone,

I have sand with my cories, and they love it. I don't have any problems cleaning it either. If you want to go with gravel, just make sure it is smooth, not sharp.

As for lighting, I'd suggest flourscent lighting with bulbs that will give you at least 2.0 wpg. With that lighting you can grow lots of plants, I'm not great with plants, hopefully others will come along. I've had good experiences with java fern and hornwort. Those are low maintenance plants.

All my tanks are filtered with aquaclear filters. They work great, I never had a problem with them. For your tank, an aquaclear mini would do the job. It would give you a 10X turnover rate, an ideal amount of filtration.

Glad I could be of help.

When I was doing some research on plants, I found that http://www.plantgeek.net/ was a very informative site. It gives profiles of plants, telling you what kind of lighting and care each plant requires. You should go check it out.

The purpose of a fry tank isn't to look "nice" and I believe its hard to do so, because frequent water changes are needed since fry are SOOOOO sensitive, especially pandas.
If you don't end up making the other ten gallon a fry tank, may I suggest a smaller species of cichlid known as the shelldweller? A pair or trio of multis or brevis would be fine for that size tank.
Good Luck!!!

Well, any way I can make the fry tank look a little bit better than a bare tank with floating java moss? Just a teeny little bit nicer? This is in my bedroom, so a little bit nicer would be nice.

Il look into shelldwellers.

Thanks!

Multis look sweet! I can set up a fry tank in the basement.

Ok, my tapwater is a bit soft, but ph of 8. Im thinking 1 semi large (For a 10 gal) Texas Holey Rock, somme tuffa rock, and of cource the snail bed and sand. Would the best bet of fish be 1 male 2 females, or could I go 1 male 3 females?

I'd say one male three females would be fine, but remember they're pretty prolific and will happily fill up a tank so it's often better to start with fewer fish.
You might not want to include a lot of rock because for shellies, floor space is King.
