	Cycling a 33g with a 7 inch ghost koi??
~Mista Psycho~ Hobbyist Posts: 125 Kudos: 84 Votes: 12 Registered: 13-Mar-2005	I have a 33g that i need to cycle. I have a pond full of koi that are about 7" - 9". I just netted a 7" ghost koi. Can i cycle my tank solely with him in it for a couple of weeks??

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003	I wouldn't. The amount of ammonia he'd put off would be more than enough to do him serious damage, especially gill burns. You're much better off doing a fishless cycle with household ammonia - that way, no fish are harmed in the making of your tank! -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com!

Without an ammonia source, the tank won't cycle, and ammolock will remove any ammonia you put in, which will keep the tank from cycling. I'd do a big water change and then start dosing ammonia. You won't need any of those things without fish in the tank, and in my opinion you don't need any of them, period. Dechlor and a good water change routine will keep your fish much healthier than any of those snake oils can. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com!
