Make it a salt water, my 2 gallon has 1 hermit crab in it, so your 3 gallon can probably take 2.

most people think it's an empty tank with some shells at the bottom, haha

I kno ! I am seriously thinking about taking up a different hobby but fish keeping is a favoriate thing to do even tho i do not have the money. My parents think i am crazy spending this much on fish if i am probley gunna give it up soon. Haven't disapointed them so far but i am getting close. I have made some good friends through the hobby tho.

$100?! Is that for just the tank, or does it include all the accessories? Although, I guess you'd need to buy them anyway, so it is expensive to set up even a small tank.

Have a look in the paper for cheap second hand tanks and equipment.

I got my first tank for $50 (7 gal with a working heater and air pump, and gravel). Then I spent another $30 or so on a filter and bought some better gravel.

Second tank was a 2 foot (15 gal) and cost $35. It's a good size for a small tank, and was a lot easier to manage than the first one. It's also a good size for lighting. 2ft fluros aren't too hard to find.

I got a 4ft (40 gal) tank with stand, and three 2.5ft tanks (no idea about volume) for $100 including delivery. They're not in the best condition, but they're still good.

It's an expensive hobby to get into. To get a tank, stand, filter, heater, decorations, light, food, water treatments and medicine will set you back hundreds. That's without the fish!

Man, I'd bet you could order one online cheaper than the $100 AU! Maybe try some online shopping.

Yea. I would rather keep fish in my tank. Good suggestion tho. I am looking around for a 10gallon.

You can try going with a plant only tank, although plants can sometimes be much more expensive then the fish. Or plants and some shrimp
Rather than just one male betta, you could try a few female bettas.

I know that the small tanks can be hard, I have a 6 gallon tall hex tank that I'm faced with stocking.....it takes some creativity, and understanding of the fish.

^_^

If you cant afford a 10 gallon tank, then you cant afford to put fish in a 3 gallon tank.

A 10 gallon only costs around $8 around here, and can probably be found cheaper.

I dont think I'd do a shellie in a 3 gallon, a pair or a trio belongs in a 10.

African Dwarf Frogs, you could probably keep 2 or three. You could also go with one Dwarf Cichlid. Apistos or Shell Dwellers.

I think I'd pop for a 10 gallon, you'd have more options.

Have fun, Mike

Yup Molly basically said everything, guppies would be okay, and obviously a betta or snails, so if guppies don't interest you I'd go with shrimp, or maybe an ADF

That's a pretty small tank, is the thing. Hmm, let's see ... maybe a couple of male guppies? Some people have trouble with males nipping at each other but for the most part it seems to work out. Or male Endler's Livebearers.
There are some pretty cool shrimp out there, like these ones:

Ummm ... nope, I'm out of suggestions, really.[/font]
