Is there any big difference in a 29 gallon kit from Walmart (Brand Regent) filter is aquatech HOB and Hagen 29 gallon with an aquaclear HOB. The walmart kit is $150 Hagen at the LFS $250. Thanks for any opinions and assistance.

Well, I'm not terribly fond of kits (mostly because I like to customize ), but I'd personally go for the aquaclear filter, which I've heard good things about. Also, if you go for the Walmart brand, make sure you open/have them open the box before you buy it... I've heard a few tales of broken tanks from those kits at Walmart.

What else is in the kits? If you're going to a LFS that isn't a chain store, you're going to pay dearly for tanks and kits. Or, at least, that's what I've noticed around me. Not sure what you have nearby you, but if you can find chain pet stores, they'll generally have the items at a lower price.

I'd say shop around more if you haven't already, that seems like an awfully big price difference. I know that say, for instance, Petco's prices on tanks and kits are higher than that of Petsmart. *shrugs* Also, perhaps try looking online? You may also be better off just buying the equipment seperately.

Buying separately may be a good option so I can pick my own setup.

Regent filters are Penguins with no biowheel and a different cartridge. A at least, that's what some people say. I know many rRegent products are made by Marineland, for instance, the Galaxy 5 aquarium is an Eclipse 6, and the carbon jars are Black Diamond.

Go with the hagen kit if you don't decide to piece one together yourself, which i highly recommend.
