How long did it take for you new pet to start swimming around and not hide?

How long before he/she started to eat?

Hi,
Well that depends on which fish you have.
THose fish i have swim around from the moment i bought them.
My elephantfish is hidding a lot,but thats because he like to eat at night.but he comes out now and then...
My hoplo catfish is also hiding sometimes, but he swims around and comes out when its feeding time.
So to your questions my fish started to swim from the moment i let them in my tank(not hidding)..thats except the elephantfish.
And i always feed the fish the day after if i got some new fish in my tank, but they all eat the food.
Robby

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

i've had the same experiences, some fish were lunging at food in the bag, others hid for a spell.

I'd say if your fish is still hiding after a week, 10 days, somethin' aint' right.

I actually got some new fish today. 2 small Electric Yellows

Just floated the bag for about 20-30mins, added a small amount of stress reducing conditioner and realesed the fish, by hand.
The moment I put them in they would stay around my hand for about 20 seconds then they'll feel comfortable and swim off.

They haven't been hiding at all and are happily swimming about.
I fed them about 2-3 hours after I released them and they ate the food.

My Terror keeps hiding under the same plant. It looks like he gets wedged in there so I jiggle the plant to get him out.

I guess I should stop doing this as Im sure its not helping him adjust.

It just looks like hes trapped.

I had the hardest time with the goldbarbs that I brought down from tims place. They were in transit for 24 hours or so, we did give them sleeping pills, and I know they ship for longer when they come from the farms but for some reason these guys were still freaked out weeks later. They'd come out only when there was food around :%).
Once they joined the others in the 30 gallon they were fine though .
