D-Diddy Fingerling Posts: 21 Kudos: 14 Votes: 2 Registered: 02-Nov-2005	I set up my new 20 gal. tank with 5 zebra Danios about a week ago. They look like they are doing great. My goal it to have a tank with 3 Cichlids and a pleco. I want to add them now, but my brother-in-law said I have to wait a full MONTH The Danios look so small in the tank.

Alkyne Mega Fish Posts: 1053 Kudos: 2064 Votes: 23 Registered: 29-Apr-2003	The tank needs time to cycle-or build up bacteria for the nitrogen cycle, especially if it is a brand new tank. You can tell whe this is occurring by ammonia, NO2, and NO3 testing.

You can add fish after the cycle ends (i.e. ammonia and nitrItes are at 0ppm). as for the stock, what are the 3 cichlids you want, and what type of pleco. I am thinking the fish you may want might grow to large for a 20G. Also they many not have the compatible requirements. Welcome to the site, and Hope that we can help you, Megil. inlikefish Hobbyist Posts: 132 Kudos: 64 Votes: 2 Registered: 18-Oct-2003	i have a twenty gallon myself, I put a pair of bolivian rams and a pair of gold rams. they are awesome cichlids are get to be about 3 inches, perfect size for a 20. For a twenty gallon, i would not get any fish that grows larger than 5 inches. even that seems pushing the space a little to me. Dont get a common pleco, they get to be 14 inches and up. I got a bristlenose Pleco, he gets to be almost 5 inches. my advice, research research research. and definitely listen to your brother in law about cycling, otherwise what ever fish you get, will die from the water quality.
