Well today my mom's friend randomly dropped off a 20 gallon high tank! YAY!! So...what can i do? The tank has an undergravel filter and some pretty thick gravel and i cannot decide what to do. I cannot decide whether i should put the thick gravel in (if it was planted i know thinner gravel is better) So what can i do in a twenty gallon.

I have a twenty gallon community planted already, could i do a pair of convicts? Or anyother cichlids? (not rams, a higher pH cichlid...i already have enough problems keeping the pH down in my other tank)

The first thing i would do is get a HOB filter and replace the UGF. I heard they can be hard to maintain unless you know exactly what your doing, and that they arent the best option for planted tanks. But like i said that is just me.

For a 20 gal high:

Prolific Cichlids:

Kribs
Shellies
Brichardi

Probably forgetting a few others...

I'll do graffiti,
If you sing to me in French.

I have a HOB filter also. So i was wondering if i should run both or just the HOB.

I pitched the UGF, i have the HOB bio-wheel running...so what next?!

IMO Plants don't like small gravel or sand, as it compacts & kill the roots. So i tink that your gravel is fine for a planted tank.
You can have some Tetra's & Corydoras in there, but it's better to read all the options given & then tell us what you've decided.

Lucky ducky... go wild and do a setup you have dreamed of or one that is totally unexpected/left field. After all the tank came outta left field didn't it?

Congrats. thumbs up!

Let us know what you do eventually...
