I am beginning to think about starting a new tank...and I was thinking about this for my inhabitants in a 55g...

4 Blue Rams
1 Redtail Shark
12-15 Rummynose Tetras
1 Chinese Algae Eater

What do you think...any changes or ideas to make it better...

Chinese Algae Eaters get aggressive when they get bigger. I'd skip that one and go with one of the smaller Plecos. Alot of the people here love Bristle Nose Plecos.

Not sure about the Red Tail. I think they are e to harrassing tankmates but I've never kept one so I can't say. Someone will be along to advise on that.

Rams are great fish but don't put them in until your tank is completely cycled.

Have fun, Mike

Instead of the CAE, get a BN or a small Plekotia.
The Rams & the Rummynose are a bit delicate, & so they go in last, after the cycle is completed.

Well Red-tails do harass and are a pain...so skip...and the whole rummynoses are very sensitive...so go with maybe some neons...they are just as interesting and very interesting to watch when schooling..just some of my perspectives..but as for the cory's go they are very good..so have fun!

As Peter said Neon Tetras are great as would be Glowlight Tetras, Cardinal Tetras and even Lemon Tetras!

Good luck and have fun

LIke fishrneat said you could also have cardinals, lemons, or glowlites...it all depends on your taste..and what she said about the lemons they do get on the meduim to larger side so watch your number of them..And iam prett sure that you mentioned something about having it be well planted and such..but tht is a deffinate must because your fish will need places to chill and "hang" out every once and a while..check back with me or us to make sure that your calculations and perspectives are logical..but whatver yu do....remember to have fun
