i have to agree with eric on that one, a 10g is way too small for danios.
we have a male betta in a 15g with 2 plattys and 4 candy loach, as an alternative idea to tetras.

a snail would be a good scavenger for that tank size but not sure how bettas are with them, ill leave that to someone with more experience of the 2 together to answer

Thanks very much, you've given me a lot to thnk about. At this point I think I'm leaning towards a Betta and some tetras or cardinals. As much as I like the Dalmations I can't be cruel and put them in a tank that isn't their size. Unfortunatly I think 10g is the biggest I can get without some redecorating .

Would a snail be an appropriate scavenger? They had some gold mystery snails, I think that's what they were called.

thanks again!

I would not recommend putting danios in a 10g , as they need lots of swimming room. They are fast swimmers and are constantly moving about so a 10g would be too small for them. And as for those Glo-fish... I would stay away from those . A great alternative for neons are cardinals.

I would stay small on your first tank 10 gallon is perfect. I would also advise you against neon tetra's as they often have neon tetra disease however if you like neons try glofish ]http:// [/link] (eg. [link=GloFish!]http://www.glofish.com[/link]) they are baisicly zebra danio's with genetic enhancements that do not harm the fish. Also plain zebra danio's work well too depending on your lfs you may be able to get the longfin version. Dont forget to see the begginers help </a> (eg. [link=http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin.asp) one of the most important things to remeber is be paitent and dont get intimidated by the vast amount of info availible.

Lemons with a betta . I wouldnt attempt that as lemons can be nippy especially towards bettas since they have long flowing fins. A 10g would weigh approximentally 100 pounds + gravel and decorations. If you can I would try to get a bigger tank as bigger is better for beginners since bigger tanks are easier to maintain. Waste in bigger tanks is diluted more therefore easier to maintain. But if bigger is not an option... in a 10g I would go for maybe 6 tetras... maybe neons or cardinals or something that is on the smaller side.. or a few female bettas . Im not sure a molly would be a good choice for a 10g as they get up to 4 inches or so.. but I dont have too much experience with mollies. You could maybe add some cories too.. depends how much you keep up on the waterchanges. Or you could possibly go with a few guppies. And welcome to FP .

i would guess a fully stocked 10g would be about 40-50KG when fully set up.
as far as your stocking goes how about these ideas for a nice contrast.

1 blue male betta and a school of 6 flame tetra
or
1 red beta and a school of 8 neons or 6 cardinals

lemon tetra can also be kept with a betta.

might also be worthwhile eventually to add a scavenger of some type for the bottom to help keep things clean.

what you need to remember is to do your research on which fish you want and make sure they have similar water requirements, then find out which are most hardy to cycle the tank with and build up your stock slowly.

im sure more experienced fishkeepers on here will add to my thoughts and be more than happy to advise you further.

just to add, i agree with sonic that if its possible i would go with a bigger tank, 15g min.

it would probably weigh about 100 pounds.

i would recomend going bigger or lightely stocking the 10 so you don't run into problems later. i don't know much about the compatability on those but i would't keep any of them together. neons are kind of small to keep with the mollies or the betta.
