I just got a new 10 gal. kit that came with a full hood and light fixture in-one. It supports 2 25W max. incadescent bulbs (currently has 2 15W). My question is, can I in place of the incadescents put 2 thread-in fluorescent bulbs? I'll be planting some live plants (low light) and think it would be good for them to have the proper lighting.

Thanks!

You can use flouros instead, as long as it doesn't exceed the max wattage.

I changed the regular incandescent bulb in my 2.5 gallon minbow, to one of those spiral compact flourescents, with no problems, so I don't see why you should have any.

Yup screw in floros will be great for that tank . Look in your local hardware or home improvement store for "daylight" bulbs. You dont want "warm white" or "cool white". If you can find it a bulb with 6500K or 6700K will be the best for the plants. You should be able to easily get 2-2.5wpg for the tank which will be good for low to medium light plants.

Went to my LFS a couple days ago and picked up one of these 20W bulbs for... oh, a slight fee :%) lol.

But I must say that it gives off some great looking light! Will be heading back today to get the 10W bulb. Thanks for the help everyone
