kaboke Fingerling * Newbe * Posts: 28 Kudos: 15 Votes: 3 Registered: 04-Dec-2006 | hi ,My neigbour has a 20 gallon that is 4 jears old and she does not want it anymore so i can haved is that cool ore what it looks like i have an addiction for fish annyway i am going to cycle the tank first ( i'm going to try the fishless cycling )an then stock it with some little community fish and some schrimp I think i'm the most happy girl in the world Kaboke |

Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Just like oldtimer said make sure you test it first, you wouldn't be very happy if three days into the cycle you realized it was leaking It's possible to get leaks in such a 'young' tank if it's been sitting unused, especially in a garage somewhere. Best way to test for leaks is to put some paper underneith the tank on a flat surface. If you have it use plain newsprint (that hasn't been printed on yet) if you only have access to newspaper that will work too but might be hard to see on. Once the paper is under the tank very carefully fill it with water. I'd suggest using a jug or pitcher rather than a bucket because you do not want any drips or splashes. Next wait 24-48 hours. Keep an eye on the paper if you notice any water marks you'll know you have a leak. With that sized tank it may be possible to reseal it, although you may be able to work around any leaks that the tank might have. You should be able to jump start your cycle using materials from your current tank. Congrats on such a lucky hand me down . ^_^ |

kaboke Fingerling * Newbe * Posts: 28 Kudos: 15 Votes: 3 Registered: 04-Dec-2006 | the tank is not empty its still running so its definitly not leaking she has 3 fish in it 2 are going to her sister but if i want the catfish i can haved also for free i don't now what it is but its 4 years old and about 8 inches big would i be overstockt if i put that catfish in my 28 gallon for the moment i have 3 tiger barbs ,1 green tiger b.,2 albino b.,and 1 rtbs thanks kaboke |
