I've just bought a small tropical starter kit (30 ltrs capacity)and am currently 8 days into the water maturity process, the plants are all artificial.

I've narrowed my choice of fish down to just 4, they are; Red wag platy, glo-light tetra, cory schwartzi & pristella tetra, would all these go together and if so how many of each would be advisable ?, (I was thinking; 3 platy's, 2 cory's and 4-5 glo-lights "or" pristella's).

What fish would be the best to get first?.

Secondly I have a rena filstar "2 stage filter" it's clearly working but are'nt there meant to be bubbles coming from it ?.

Thanks for any info / advice anyone can give.

Well 30L is a little over 7 gallons, which is a really small tank. I wouldnt' suggest corys in that sized tank as they're schooling fish and need groups of 4-6.
Personally I suggest going with one type of tetra. A school of tetras will stock the tank once it's cycled. Be sure to read about cycling ([link=Link to cycling]http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin-cycling.asp" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link]).
Air bubbles aren't required in a tank. So long as there is some disturbance in the surface of the tank there will be enough oxygen.

Well... if you want more than one type of fish I suggest looking @fish other than tetras.

Cherry barbs are a small colorful, non schooling fish.

There are actually quite a few types...have a look @ [link=this thread]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/General%20Freshwater/55574.html" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] for a few ideas.

I would reccomend 2 platies and 6 glowlights only if it was 10 gal or more. I really dont think schooling fish (however small) should be in anything less then a 10. Also, platies can be very active and potentially very prolific.

with a 6-7 gal, try going with neons, or something to cycle. as with the filter, check it to make sure to clogs, or try adding an airstone to make bubbles.

I am not sure but i don't tihnk you should cycle with Neons? don't they have a tendancy to be Very sensitive to water quality.

the most common fish to cycle with are danios BUT your tank to far too small for them.

i would try fishless cycling. or (and this is impossible to manage!) get one or two fish at a time and test your water lots.

as far as what fish to get, you could put platies in there, but either girls or boys not both - you'd be over run with babies which can be fun at first and then you end up with Water Quality problems.

I wouldnt cycle with neons, they are too sensitive

Beware: Livebearer females often come from the shop preggers, so even if you buy all females, you could easily get a ton of fry. They store sperm too, so they can drop every month for up to 6 months even when there is no male.
