Cut it with a exacto knife, if you break the seal you'll be able to pull it right off.

Also for cleaning I'd use a vinegar/water solution as bleach is a chemical and much harder to dilute. Vinegar will be easier to totally eliminate from the tank after cleaning. Just my opinion
Enjoy those new tanks

I have another question how can I get the wooden railings off that was used to hold up a roof for a reptile tank. It appears to be stuck on with silicon. Any Ideas?:88)

Phew very nice but you sure have got some cleaning up to do there LOL. I hope they clean up nice for you. Just keep imagining those lovely fish in there once it is all done and it will be well worth the effort. Good Luck and best wishes.

Ok I got all my tanks tonight.

Alot of work here. I have taken some photos of what I have to clean.

Ok here goes.

Tank 1:

Tank 2:

Tank 3:

The last tank was used for lizards and comes with a lid. The wooden siding I am going to be very careful in taking it off.

Ok off to wash. More photos too follow.

Hi Chris and welcome to FP

You are so lucky, but hey I don't know where I would put them if I had them

I would clean them with a simple bleachy water solution, and if possible do it outside...I'd say about a cup of bleach and the rest warm water, scrub it down with a rag or sponge that is non-abrassive, and let it sit for awhile, this will also be a great time to see if it leaks or not. Then empty, and rinse, rinse, rinse, and rinse some more. Keep rinsing till you would be willing to drink from it, then rinse it a couple of more times to be safe

For the 4 ft I get about 44US gallons. For my 55 gallon Cichlid tank I have small gravel, some would suggest sand, but small gravel has worked well for me so far You will want to get about 50-75 lbs (22-35 kg) of limestone (Texas Holey Rock) where the holes are already present. While choosing the stone if you get that option I found it easiest to plop myself down in front of the boxes that were there, and start sorting what is present, and building. Keep in mind when it is in the water it will stack much easier, and I use my biggest piece against the back of tank in the middle, then have built around it. As far as plants go I have had trouble keeping plants in the tank, as cichlids eat them as fast as I try to plant them:%)so I've given up. You will need the caves for when any aggression is noticed from one to the other it gives them a place and chance to hide.

I would stick to 2 species that compliment each other in you tank. 2 of my favorites are Yellow labs, and Acei. Both have quite a personality, and get along nicely. Both are Mbuna Cichlids, found in Africa. I feed mine a mixture of foods, and lots of fresh veggies keep them happy and regularwhile some bloodworms make them happy too.

You'll also need a reliable heater to keep the tank temperature stabalized, a hood, and I can't think of anything else right now...

You can check out the cichlid profiles here

This is a picture of an acei, with direct information to it's profile:

As for the other two tanks I'd clean them in the same way, and the choices of what to put in them are yours.

Best of luck, and let us know what you decide, heidi
